Settings reference

Every PreviewMonitor setting in one place — label, control, options, default, what it changes, and whether it needs Pro.

Every user-facing setting in PreviewMonitor, on both halves of the product. Labels are copied character-for-character from the app and the plugin's Setup window.

There are five surfaces:

SurfaceWhereWhat lives there
Settings panelgear button in the live view's HUDEncoding, Audio, HUD and Developer Tools cards, plus Reset to Defaults
Resolution Limit chipthe round chip in the same HUD button rowthe nine-rung resolution ladder
Layout pickerlayout button in the same HUD button rowoverlay choice, safe-zone color and opacity
Clip monitor panelgear button inside Preview from Photos or Filesa three-control subset of the settings panel
Setup windowthe host, from Premiere Pro's Transmit settingsdevice name, discoverability, encoder toggle, trusted phones

The HUD button row runs left to right: audio, layout, Resolution Limit chip, gear. All four settings surfaces on the phone require an active stream, except the clip monitor's, which requires an imported clip.

PreviewMonitor settings panel open over a live stream, showing the Encoding, Audio, HUD and Developer Tools cards and the Reset to Defaults button

The whole settings panel in one scroll: four cards, then the red Reset to Defaults button. Resolution Limit is deliberately not here — it lives on the HUD chip.

Settings panel — ENCODING

LabelControlOptionsDefaultWhat it changes
Encoderdropdownsupplied by the host — on Windows some subset of NVIDIA NVENC, Intel Quick Sync, AMD AMF, Software (CPU); on macOS only VideoToolboxthe host's first-priority engine, marked Recommended in the open listWhich encoder does the work. Changing it rebuilds the plugin's encoder.
CodecdropdownH.265, H.264H.265The video codec on the wire.
GOP ModedropdownAll-Intra, Short, Long (Long is marked Recommended)LongKeyframe spacing: All-Intra makes every frame an IDR, Short uses a 5-frame GOP, Long uses a 600-frame GOP.

Below the three rows the card prints a live summary in the form Stream: 1280×720 @ 25 fps — the dimensions and frame rate the plugin is actually encoding, not what you requested.

The engine list arrives from the plugin about 100 ms after streaming starts. Until then the Encoder row shows a dash.

None of these three is Pro-gated. Bit rate is not a setting: the encoder runs in constant-quality mode and spends whatever bits the picture needs at your chosen rung.

Settings panel — AUDIO

LabelControlOptionsDefaultWhat it changes
SyncsegmentedLow Latency, Lip SyncLow LatencyPlayback buffering on the phone only. Lip Sync buffers more so audio lines up with the decode-delayed picture; Low Latency keeps audio ahead. The plugin sends the same PCM either way.

Settings panel — HUD

LabelControlOptionsDefaultWhat it changes
ControlssegmentedStay on, Auto-hideStay onWhether the HUD fades on a timer. A tap on the picture toggles the chrome in both modes.
Hide afterslider2–15 s, whole seconds4 sThe fade delay. The row is only present while Controls is Auto-hide.
Max zoomslider with stops2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30×10× on Pro, 4× on freeThe pinch-zoom ceiling in both the live view and the clip monitor.

Max zoom is Pro-gated above 4×. On the free tier the whole scale is drawn but the stops above 4× are dimmed, and tapping them opens the upgrade sheet. See Free vs Pro.

Settings panel — DEVELOPER TOOLS

LabelControlOptionsDefaultWhat it changes
Show statstoggleon / offoffDraws the metrics strip — bit rate, frame rate, round-trip time — over the picture. Turning it on closes the settings panel so you can see the result.

Despite the card name, Show stats is a normal user feature and is not gated. See Stats HUD for what each number means.

Resolution Limit

Resolution Limit is not in the settings panel. It is the round chip in the HUD button row, which always shows the current rung — Src for Source, otherwise the rung's own label.

The value is a cap on the short side of the encoded picture. The plugin downscales to fit it and preserves aspect, so a 16:9 sequence at 720p encodes at 1280×720 and a 9:16 vertical sequence at the same rung encodes at 720×1280.

240p240 pxAvailable

The default is 720p, marked Recommended in the open menu. On the free tier the default folds down to 360p.

Every rung above 360p, including Source, needs Pro. Locked rungs show a lock in the menu and open the upgrade sheet instead of selecting, and the chip itself carries a lock badge. The cap is enforced by the plugin as well as the app — see Free vs Pro.

Resolution Limit menu open over the live view, showing all nine rungs with lock badges on the Pro-only ones

The menu is anchored to the chip; 720p carries a "Recommended" subtitle and each locked rung carries a lock.

Layout picker

Opened from the layout button. The card is headed LAYOUT. Standard and Full Screen are plain rows; Universal Safe Zone and each platform are collapsible sections, and only one section is open at a time.

RowTypeWhat it drawsFree tier
Standardplain rowno overlay; picture fits the screen with aspect preservedAvailable
Full Screenplain rowpicture scaled to cover the screen, overflow cropped, no chromeAvailable
Universal Safe Zonesectiona single tinted safe-zone frame that clears every platform's UIAvailable
Shorts → LTR (default), RTL, BothsectionYouTube Shorts action railAvailable
TikTok → LTR (default), RTL, BothsectionTikTok action railPro
Reels → LTR (default), RTL, BothsectionInstagram Reels action railPro

The default is Standard.

LTR puts the action rail on the right (the layout a left-to-right audience sees), RTL mirrors it, Both draws both rails at once so you can check clearance for either.

All six TikTok and Reels variants need Pro. Their rows show a lock and open the upgrade sheet.

Universal Safe Zone controls

Expanding Universal Safe Zone reveals two more controls.

LabelControlOptionsDefaultFree tier
Opacityslider0–100%, with a magnetic detent at 30%30%Locked
(color swatches)five circular swatchesred, black, white, green, blueredLocked to red

Both are Pro. On the free tier the opacity slider stays visible and readable but does not move, and the four non-red swatches carry a lock. Tapping either opens the upgrade sheet.

Caption editor

When the selected layout draws a caption, an Edit Profile & Caption button appears at the bottom of the picker. It edits the profile name and caption text for that layout only. Not gated.

Clip monitor panel

Preview from Photos or Files gets its own gear, but a much smaller panel — headed SETTINGS — with three rows:

LabelSame setting as
Controlsthe live view's Controls
Hide afterthe live view's Hide after
Max zoomthe live view's Max zoom

These are not separate copies. They read and write the same stored values as the live settings panel, so a preference set in one holds in the other. There is no Encoding card and no Audio card — there is no encoder and no host in this mode. The layout picker is available and behaves identically.

Host-side Setup window

Reached from Premiere Pro's Transmit settings. See Setup window for the full tour.

ControlPlatformTypeDefaultWhat it changes
Namebothtext fieldthe computer's host nameThe display name in the phone's device list and in the mDNS record. On macOS it is restricted to letters and numbers, with the placeholder Letters and numbers only; Windows applies no validation.
Discoverable on networkbothtoggleonWhether the plugin advertises itself over mDNS. With it off, the phone can still connect by QR code or typed IP.
Use NVIDIA / Intel HW HEVC encoderWindows onlytoggleoffWhether the plugin may use asynchronous Media Foundation transforms. NVIDIA and Intel expose hardware HEVC only as an async transform, so with this off, hardware HEVC is unavailable.
Forgetbothbutton per paired phone—Removes one iPhone from the trusted list. It has to pair again.
Advanced infobothdisclosurecollapsedReveals the LIVE STREAM and NETWORK diagnostic cards.
Restart networkingmacOS onlybutton—Tears down and rebuilds the transport. Drops the connected iPhone.

On Windows, Discoverable on network is written to disk immediately but does not apply to the running transport — it takes effect the next time Premiere Pro starts. macOS applies it live. See Known limitations.

Leaving Use NVIDIA / Intel HW HEVC encoder off and then asking for a 4K HEVC stream produces a silent black screen. The exact conditions and the workaround are in Known limitations.

Where settings are stored

Almost everything is stored globally on the phone and applies to every host you connect to. There is exactly one exception.

SettingScope
EncoderPer paired host. Stored in a dictionary keyed by the host's identity, and refreshed when you switch hosts, so the picker always shows the engine you chose for that machine. A Mac's VideoToolbox is never pushed at a Windows host.
Everything elseGlobal — one value shared across every paired host.

Name, Discoverable on network and Use NVIDIA / Intel HW HEVC encoder live on the host, in the plugin's own config file, not on the phone. See Logs and diagnostics for the paths.

Reset to Defaults

The red button at the bottom of the settings panel. It applies immediately, with no confirmation, and is scoped globally rather than to the host you happen to be connected to.

It restores:

SettingRestored to
Resolution Limit720p on Pro, 360p on free
GOP ModeLong
CodecH.265
Encodercleared for every paired host, then re-resolved to each host's recommended engine
SyncLow Latency
ControlsStay on
Hide after4 s
Max zoom10× on Pro, 4× on free
Show statsoff
LayoutStandard

It does not touch your paired hosts, the Universal Safe Zone color or opacity, or anything on the host side. After restoring, the app pushes one consolidated settings snapshot to the plugin rather than a burst of individual changes.
